Assistant News Director

Job responsibilities: This position will oversee the day to day operation of a medium market newsroom, with an emphasis on breaking news. The Assistant News Director will also work closely with the Assignment Desk, the Executive Producers of newscasts, the Executive Producer in charge of Special Projects, sports and weather. The Assistant News Director will also be very involved in the total, daily integration of the station website in all facets of news gathering and production. This position will also handle the weekly staff schedule as well as vacation and other time off. There will also be projects assigned as needed by the Executive News Director. This is a strong number 2 position, which requires complete dedicatiion to aggressively cover news and get it on the air and the web quickly, accurately and with a high level of detail.

Experience: This job requires news management experience involving newscast producing, assignment desk, web and special projects. The newscast producing experience should involve the creation and execution of a multi-anchor, fast paced show with emphasis on live coverage and strong graphic elements. The assignment desk experience should involve at least a year of working on an assignment desk. During that time, the applicant should have been a primary manager for identifying and quickly reacting to breaking news and enterprise stories. The assignment of photographers, reporters and technical assets is also a top priority. The special projects experience should involve designing or working with others in the planning and execution of special events such as: election coverage, extended breaking news coverage (hurricanes, other natural disasters), sweeps snd sports specials. The web experience should include the regular proposal and execution of ideas on how to increase the traffic to the station`s website. A good knowledge of web oriented technology is a plus. The applicant should also have experience in managing, or be part of a team that manages a staff of greater than 40 people. A college level degree is preferred.

Job responsibilities:Operating studio cameras.  Floor directing for news shows.  Some lighting maintenance involved and may provide relief for Electronic Graphics Operator during shift, as needed.

Experience: Ability to work under various supervision and flexibility of schedule necessary.  Previous camera experience is required.  Previous Chyron/Clarity experience is a bonus.

NOTE:  Shift time is primarily early morning and weekend hours, but the schedule is subject to change based on supervisor’s discretion.

Job responsibilities: Duties for this position include: selling programs and annoucements to local agencies; developing from list of accounts, the maximum amount of dollars on a long term basis. You must be familiar with Nielson and Arbitron books, including the ability to interpret meaningful statistical information. You must follow-up on business sold to make sure it runs as ordered; collect competitive sales information, and develop sales presentations; make sure that all the paperwork relating to sales is accurately and promptly entered into the OSI system and suggest new business.

Experience: To work with us you will need a college degree in marketing or a related field. You will need 2-3 years prior sales experience - outside or media-related sales preferred. Computer skills, written and verbal communication skills, ability to make decisions quickly. Good interpersonal skills.
